Ontonagon County is located in the western part of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and is neighbor to Houghton, Iron and Gogebic Counties in Michigan. Ontonagon County has a population of 6,322 as of 2013 and spans over 3,741 sq. miles. The City of Ontonagon is the largest city in Ontonagon County consisting of 1,396 people as of 2014. Some other areas in Ontonagon County include; Mass City, Silver City, Bruce Crossing, White Pine, Paulding, etc.
This area is rich with natural beauty starting with the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park that overlooks Lake Superior. This state park is 60,000 acres which would make it Michigan’s largest state park. This area provides you with numerous hiking trails and fishing opportunities. In the winter there is a fantastic ski area with 19 runs of varying difficulty including the second highest vertical drop in Michigan. There are 23 miles of groomed trails for cross country skiing or experience the 350 miles of snowmobile trails throughout Ontonagon County. A great event that is put on at the state park is the Porcupine Mountain Music Festival. This year they will be celebrating their 11th annual festival with music consisting of jazz, bluegrass and folk.
